Law firm sues Underbelly star over $36,000

He is one of Australia's most prolific actors, whose recent appearance in The Great Gatsby follows decades of work in films such as Lantana and Wog Boy.

But now Underbelly star Vince Colosimo is facing bankruptcy proceedings at the hands of a Melbourne law firm.

Colosimo, pictured, has been dragged into in the Federal Court over a $36,000 demand from Dandanis & Associates.

The company describes itself on its website as a boutique firm ''offering high quality legal advice'' in commercial and property law.

Colosimo, 46, starred as Melbourne gangland figure Alphonse Gangitano in the Underbelly series, through his agent RGM Artists.

He is currently filming Fat Tony & Co, a spin-off from the Underbelly series that focuses on the manhunt for drug boss Tony Mokbel after he fled Melbourne for Greece.

Colosimo is no stranger to offscreen courtroom drama. In 2008, he battled former partner, radio host Jane Hall, in the Victorian Supreme Court, seeking a 90 per cent share of the sale of their $890,000 home in Northcote.

Hall said last year she had briefly moved back into the home.

Dandanis & Associates issued Colosimo a bankruptcy notice on May 22.

Colosimo did not respond to a request for comment before this story was published.

A hearing is scheduled for October 1.
